Wat is een corpus luteum cyste?
Een corpus luteumcyste is een niet-kankerachtige verandering die kan worden gezien wanneer de eierstok van een vrouw in de reproductieve leeftijd onder de microscoop wordt onderzocht. Het wordt gecreëerd door een corpus luteum dat aan het einde van de menstruatiecyclus niet in een corpus albicans verandert.

Gynaecoloog noemde het een complexe cyste, met meerdere tussenschotten, een type cyste dat veelal verwijderd wordt, maar gaf aan dat verwijderen ook risico’s heeft ivm littekenvorming.
Een corpus luteum cyste is een cyste in de eierstok die ontstaat uit het corpus luteum (gele lichaam). Een cyste is een met vocht gevulde holte. Het corpus luteum ontstaat na de ovulatie en produceert hormonen om een eventuele zwangerschap in stand te houden. Als de eicel niet bevrucht wordt, krimpt het corpus luteum.
Wat is Gelelichaam?
Het omhulsel van de eicel dat na de eisprong achterblijft in de eierstok noemen we het gele lichaam. Het gele lichaam geeft de geslachtshormonen oestrogeen en progesteron af. Deze zorgen voor groei van het baarmoederslijmvlies, zodat een eventueel embryo zich in kan nestelen.
