Hoe ontstaat MDS?
Ontstaan.
What are myelodysplastic syndromes?
Summary Summary. Myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) are a group of blood disorders characterized by abnormal development of blood cells within the bone marrow. People with MDS have abnormally low blood cell levels (low blood counts).
What is myelodysplastic syndromes with ring sideroblasts?
Myelodysplastic syndromes with ring sideroblasts. This subtype involves a low number of one or more blood cell types. A characteristic feature is that existing red blood cells in the bone marrow contain rings of excess iron. Myelodysplastic syndromes with isolated del (5q) chromosome abnormality.
What increases the risk of multiple Myelodysplasia (MDS)?
Workers in some industries with heavy exposure to hydrocarbons such as the petroleum industry have a slightly higher risk of contracting the disease than the general population. Xylene and benzene exposures have been associated with myelodysplasia. Vietnam veterans exposed to Agent Orange are at risk of developing MDS.
What is mixed myelodysplastic/myeloproliferative neoplasms (MDS/MPN)?
Mixed Myelodysplastic/myeloproliferative neoplasms (MDS/MPN )– a group of blood diseases that aren’t specific to any of the above MDS types. MDS/MPN have both too few and too many blood cells produced in the bone marrow. 1
