Hoe weet je of een artikel RCT is?

Een randomised controlled/clinical trial (RCT) is een interventiestudie (controlled clinical trial) waarin de onderzoekspopulatie op aselecte wijze wordt verdeeld in een interventiegroep en een controlegroep. RCT’s worden beschouwd als de beste onderzoeksmethode om een hypothese te testen.

Vaak wordt er een selectie gemaakt naar bijvoorbeeld leeftijd, andere behandelingen die de persoon krijgt, bijkomende pathologie, etc. Een ander kenmerk is de blindering, het liefst dubbele blindering. Hierbij weet de proefpersoon niet of hij/zij een “echte” of placebo c.q. controle-behandeling krijgt.
